The centrifuge is the core equipment for oil and alkali refining. At present, most of the new refinery plants use two self-cleaning and one non-self-clearing centrifuges for the alkali refining process, which can easily reduce the acid value of the oil to about 0.10, and the separation effect is good. less. However, in actual production, the centrifuge often runs oil, the current rises, and the separation is unclear. To deal with these problems, let's discuss the working principle of the centrifuge.
1 How the hub works
The separation of the mixture is done in the hub, and below is a description of the separation of the mixture in the hub, see Figure 1.

The stream enters the bottom of the hub from 3, forming a thin layer on the disc, and the heavy phase material and the light phase material are separated under the thin layer. The heavy phase material is forced by centrifugal force to the edge of the hub and is led from the centripetal pump 6 to the heavy phase outlet. The light phase material is led from the center of the hub through the centripetal pump 7 to the oil outlet. Solid impurities are forced into the sediment space 15 and are discharged from the rotor during the slag discharge process (the hub is opened).
2 The principle of the hub seal
The seal of the hub is completed by an operating water system controlled by a PLC. When the hub reaches the rated speed, the water solenoid valve 12 is closed intermittently several times, and the water is turned off into the lower space 3 of the sliding piston. Under the water pressure, the sliding piston rises and presses the gasket 9, thereby sealing the hub.
The piston valve 7 presses the gasket 8 under the action of centrifugal force to seal the closed water space 3, as shown in Fig. 2.

During the slag discharge process of the hub, the opening water solenoid valve 13 is opened, and the piston valve 7 is actuated to the piston valve 7 through the passage 5, so that the piston valve 7 is moved toward the center of the hub, and the closed water space is opened, and once the water pressure is lowered, the sliding piston is slid. When it falls, the hub opens and solid impurities are discharged.
After the slag discharge is completed, the solenoid valve 13 is closed, the solenoid valve 12 is opened, and the hub is resealed, as shown in FIG.
3 adjustment screw
As can be seen at 26 in Figure 1, it is a centripetal pump with a variable diameter, and the centripetal pump is adjusted by adjusting the screw. It has two functions:

3.1 During the separation process, adjust the screw and change the diameter of the centripetal pump to achieve better separation.
Adjustment rule: The oil contains soap and increases the diameter of the centripetal pump.
The soap contains oil and reduces the diameter of the centripetal pump.
3.2 Before the slag discharge, after the solenoid valve controls the diameter of the centripetal pump to become smaller, the slag is automatically returned to the original value to reduce the oil loss during the slagging process.
In actual production, the separation effect of the centrifuge is not good. First, check the external conditions, such as: Is the oil too dirty? Is the alkali amount suitable? Is the oil temperature suitable? Is the oil-alkali mixture sufficient? Is the water pressure in the centrifuge operation too? Low? Is the diameter of the centripetal pump appropriate?
The current rises, always accompanied by a hub leak. At this time, it is necessary to stop the oil, rinse the centrifuge with water, and perform several manual slagging. If the hub is leaking, it is necessary to stop the inspection. The gaskets at 9, 9, 15, and 16 in Figure 2 are important to check.
In order to make the centrifuge in a better working condition, the following points are very important: use coarsely filtered hair oil, be careful when assembling, in place, and regularly check the lubrication.
