FDA approves first medical VR, Avatar helps stroke rehabilitation

Rehabilitation after a stroke often takes a lot of time and the prognosis is not good. However, the latest virtual reality has recently received FDA approval to help patients recover better and faster.

The system was developed by the Swiss company MindMaze and has been approved and marketed in the European market. This FDA approval will be the first to promote VR to US hospitals for patients with impaired brain.

The US-based San Francisco-based company is currently focusing on the development of the Neurorehabilitation system. The approved product, MindMotion Pro, uses a 3D motion tracking camera to coordinate brain function and limb movements.

The system then analyzed the data to provide personalized treatment for each patient, and the company co-founder and CEO, Tej Tadi, told Axios.

The company was founded in 2012 and is headquartered in Lausanne with offices in Zurich and Romania.

Established three years ago, the company has received $8.5 million in angel round financing. Last year, Hinduja, a private bank of the Indian family group based in Switzerland, injected $100 million. This gives MindMaze a valuation of $1.1 billion.

This is the fifth virtual reality company that has raised more than 100 million yuan. It is also one of the biggest financing for VR rehabilitation.

The biggest feature of the FDA-approved system today is that patients use their arms (Avatar) to use their arms or fingertips to do a series of actions. Even if some patients can't actually operate, they can issue commands to Avatar in the brain. This also activates the cranial nerves and helps the lost brain recover.

MindMaze's partners include Stanford University and the University of California, San Francisco.

It can help activate brain function through mind control and virtual gameplay. Currently, the company will be promoted in hospitals, with a price of about $80,000. The entire medical VR market is expected to reach $5.1 billion by 2025 and users will reach 3.4 million.

Foot And Ankle Locking Plate

The foot and ankle locking plate is a special-shaped plate specially developed for calcaneal and ankle fractures, which is in line with the anatomical structure of the calcaneal and ankle joints.

During the postoperative treatment process, it can reduce the stimulation of surrounding tissues and promote bone healing.

The calcaneus is the largest of the seven tarsal bones and is located on the lower back of the foot, forming the heel. Calcaneal fractures are relatively rare, accounting for 1% to 2% of all fractures, but are important because they can lead to long-term disability. The most common mechanism of severe calcaneal fractures is axial loading of the foot after a fall from height. Calcaneal fractures can be classified into extra-articular and intra-articular fractures. Extra-articular fractures are generally easier to assess and treat. Patients with calcaneal fractures often have multiple comorbid injuries, and it is important to consider this possibility when evaluating patients.

The ankle joint is composed of the articular surface of the tibia, the lower end of the fibula, and the talar trochlea, so it is also called the talar calf joint. Ankle fractures, including fractures of the medial malleolus, lateral malleolus, posterior malleolus, or fractures of varying degrees occurring simultaneously, are due to greater violence to the medial and lateral malleolus. At the same time of both ankle fractures, the talus directly impinges posteriorly or impinges on the tibia when displaced by external rotation. Fracture of the posterior malleolus due to the posterior margin.

Foot Mini Locking Plate is composed of 2.7mm series of mini locking plate, covering a variety of plate types, widely used in trauma fixation and orthopedic surgery of the forefoot. Anatomical design of bone plate to reduce the need for shaping.
