Source: Dried roots and rhizomes of vine sticks for the perennial climber of Liliaceae. Wild, or Ranunculaceae.

Origin: Mainly produced in Henan, Shanxi and Shaanxi.

Character identification: This product is irregular rhizomes, slightly like ginger, skin black and brown, hard, yellowish white cross-section, the whole body of the majority of slender roots. Root length 20 to 100 cm, diameter of about 1 mm, very uniform, skin brown or dark brown. Light without wrinkle, slightly curved, sparsely effective hook-shaped spines and a few short hair roots, tough and iron-like, not easily broken, cross-section white, light brown rings formed by small holes visible under the magnifying glass located between the epidermis and the center (catheter). There are several other stems on the rhizome, slightly curved. About 3 to 7 centimeters long, about 8 millimeters in diameter, withered yellow, with 1 to 3 segments like bamboo knots on the stems, and many needle-like small thorns on stems. Qi and tasteless. Small rhizomes, many roots and slender, good on the ground stems.

The main ingredients: containing steroidal saponins.

Efficacy and role: rheumatism, through the meridians, its role as analgesia. Preliminary animal experiments found that this product also has a certain anesthetic effect.
