Smart Pregnancy Products Receive $9.7 Million A Round of Financing: Funding for R&D and Clinical Research
On November 15th, Ava, a provider of smart preparation products, announced a $9.7 million Series A round of financing, led by European venture capital firms Polytech Ventures and Blue Ocean Ventures, Global Sources and the company's existing seed-round investors Swisscom and ZKB . The company plans to use this round of financing to continue to develop conventional products, and to use in research and development and clinical research to accelerate its supply chain operations.
Founded in 2014 and headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, Ava is a medical technology company focused on women's reproductive health. The company's first product is a fertile tracking bracelet, belonging to a class of medical devices, with a very small appearance and a matching app. The combination of hardware and software can record nine physiological factors (including respiratory rate, skin temperature, pulse rate, and Heat loss, etc.). These factors are consistent with female hormone levels, so it is possible to speculate on the specific ovulation period and more accurately identify the female's monthly gestation period. The Ava bracelet is priced at US$199 and has been on sale since July. The company said that since the sale, the product has been sold out. The company plans to add more functions to this product and increase production to prepare for entering the European market. .
Ava conducted the first clinical trial of the bracelet at the University Hospital in Zurich, and 41 women participated in the trial. The results of the study show that the Ava bracelet is able to accurately average women's monthly pregnancy at 5.3 days with an accuracy of 89%. At present, Ava has started the second test. This time, 200 women participated in the trial. The company hopes to get more detailed results through some other tracking indicators to further improve the equipment testing capability.
Ava co-founder Lea von Bidder said: “Our initial idea was to provide services for women in different stages of life and to help them understand the physical conditions at different stages of life, from initial contraception to pregnancy, pregnancy, breastfeeding. Period, maternal period and even menopause. We start by cutting through the pregnancy, but to our surprise, much of the feedback we received came from women who were in contraception."
