In the past few years, scientists have developed "camera pills" that can transmit video from the body to a computer after the patient has swallowed it. Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University are developing microelectronic medical devices that can be partially digested to provide a more gentle treatment. The project was developed by two professors, Christopher Bettinger and Jay Whitacre, who have been developing biodegradable medical electronics for medical applications, which have developed a cheap, non-toxic sodium-ion chemical battery.
This "endoscope" that looks very similar to a capsule includes a sensor, a data transmission system. When it enters the stomach, the outermost capsule will gradually dissolve, and the battery will be activated when it encounters water, allowing the "endoscope" to start passive work.
Because the power of this battery is very low, it will not cause harm to the human body. Although they will stay in the human digestive system for about 18 to 24 hours, they can only work for two hours. In the end, the "pill" is either digested or excreted into the body with the stool.
For patients who occasionally need a gastroscope, if they can swallow the "pill", they can solve the problem, which is not a good choice.
