People who drink sugar-free carbonated drinks every day suffer from high risk of dementia and stroke

A study released on Thursday (20th) showed that people who drink sugar-free carbonated drinks every day are twice as likely to have dementia and stroke as people who drink only once a week.

According to a report by NBC News, doctors said that this is another example of sugar-free drinks that could not be used as a health drink to replace sugary drinks, and suggested that people should limit their consumption of both drinks at the same time.

Although this does not prove that sugar-free beverages can damage the brain, this study validates some of the other findings. Previous studies have shown that people who drink regular sugar-free beverages are more prone to problems.

Mathew at Boston University School of Medicine? Matthew Pase and colleagues conducted the study and they conducted research on 4,000 people. The results were published in the Stroke journal.

Pace told NBC News: "We have found that people who drink sugar-free carbonated beverages every day are more likely to suffer from dementia and stroke in the next 10 years than those who do not drink it every day."

The researchers said that their team did not ask the investigated people what artificial sweeteners they had added to their drinks. The sweeteners used in these sugarless drinks are mostly saccharine, acesulfame K, aspartame, neotame, and sucralose.

But to the researchers' surprise, the study did not show that sugary drinks pose the same risk. However, they found other risks of drinking such beverages.

Pace said: "We found in the first study that there is evidence that for those who regularly drink like fruit juices and sugary carbonated drinks, their brains age faster, for example, their brains are smaller overall. Their memory is even worse, and their hippocampus is smaller, and the hippocampus is an important part of the memory in the human mind."

Other experts have pointed out that sugary drinks are the main cause of obesity, diabetes, stroke and other diseases.

Ralf, former chairman of the American Heart Association and director of the Department of Neurology at the University of Miami Sacco commented in the same journal: "Sweet drinks and artificial sweeteners hurt the brain."

A study led by Sacco also showed that women who consume sugar-free drinks are more likely to suffer from stroke, heart disease or other diseases that can cause heart failure.

Sako said: "Now, more and more research results show that the addition of artificial sweetener beverages can cause vascular diseases, I suggest that you drink a glass of water before you drink beverages containing artificial sweeteners. ”
